All These Worlds | Writer's Review

Bobiverse Book 3

Author: Dennis E. Taylor

Narrator: Ray Porter

Genre: Science Fiction

Length: 80k / 8 hours

Basic Information

All These Worlds is the third book in the Bobiverse series, written by Dennis E. Taylor. It is the shortest volume of the series, coming in at about 80000 words in length, or 8 hours for the audio-book version. This past September was the audiobook release date of its direct sequel, titled Heaven's River, with the paperback release slated for January 24th, 2021.

Structure and Story

All These Worlds closely follows the structural formula established by in the Bobiverse series thus far. Any reader of We Are Legion or For We Are Many will be familiar with the first person, past tense prose which makes up All These Worlds, as well as the multiple point-of-view style of narration.

The novel continues the story from where For We Are Many left off, and like the previous books is divided between Bob-1's story-line and that of the other Bobs. The former again centers around the Deltan civilization and Bob-1's attempts to stay connected with Archimedes. Whlie the rest of All These Worlds focuses on the Bobiverse's war agains the Others's threat.

Sub-genre Breakdown

In terms of sub-genre the novel is quite diverse. Out of the three core elements, by far the most prominent is drama. Rihcer is no longer in the forefront in this area although he still appears in a couple chapters with a dramatic focus. Instead these elements are about evenly split between Howard, Bob 1 and several other bobs at various colony sights. The action elements again play a larger role compared to For We Are Many and are featured across several POV characters. Like before this includes Bob 1 and the ground combat associated with the Deltans, while the space combat for the most part revolves around the fight against the Others. The last core elements of the novel is romance which continue to follow the relationship between Howard and Bridgette.

Meanwhile, in a more supportive role you'll find plenty of jokes and other comedic elements livening up the story. Every now and then, one of the protagonist will also touch upon a philosophical topic. There is also plenty of world-building elements and lastly my personal favorite, the historic element, which deals with the start and growth of several fledgling civilizations.

Ratings and Conclusions

All These Worlds is an awesome addition and conclusion to the original trilogy of Bobiverse books. It provides a satisfying conclusion to all the major story-lines which have popped up in the series thus far. But on top of that it opens up a couple new loose threads which enable the possibility for more stories from this universe in the future.
